The Active Schools programme is the foundation and critical element in Sport England’s commitment to involving more people in sport. The Active Schools programme complements and reinforces the two other elements of the programme, Active Sport and Active Communities. Activemark and Activemark Gold is an accreditation scheme for the primary sector that recognises and rewards a school for its commitment to promoting the benefits of physical activity and offering good physical activity provision.
The programme provides schools with a thorough auditing and development tool to help raise the standard of physical activity provision. The Activemark process is closely linked with the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) The Active School Resource Pack for Primary Schools, which offers practical steps and guidance on how to plan, as well as ideas on improving all-round physical activity provision.
Queenborough School has been awarded an Activemark due to its promotion of healthy lifestyles, encouraging high quality physical activity and offering a range of physical activity provisions both in the school curriculum and as after school and lunch time clubs.
Queenborough is proud to hold a healthy school status. The Kent healthy Schools programme supports schools in providing and evidencing excellence in health and wellbeing. At Queenborough we promote healthy lifestyles, lunch boxes and promote positive behaviour and attitudes. We regularly review our healthy schools document to try and record and update our school’s provision fpr children and young people’s health and well being.
A healthy school promotes physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information and equips pupils and staff with the understanding, skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health. Pupils flourish in a positive environment and are given a voice to influence whole-school decisions. A healthy school understands the importance of investing in health to help pupils do their best, raise levels of achievement, improve standards and develop policies and practices to promote health.
Healthy Schools adopts a whole-school approach, involving the whole-school community, parents/carers, governors, staff and pupils in improving children’s health. The process is needs-led and can support the school development plan in striving for continual improvement.
